Interns at Washington's seminal short film festival, DC Shorts, have given 'SICK' a stunning review on their blog in the lead up to the September event. The film is not yet in competition, but was a randomly selected entry to get the critical treatment. Read the full article here.


16/03/09 - 'SICK' CELEBRATES 50

'SICK' is this week celebrating its 50th festival selection at 15th Bradford International Film Festival which runs from 13th - 28th March 2009. The film will screen before US Documentary Carny on Thursday 19th March at 2pm in Bradford's National Media Museum.


16/02/09 - 'SICK' TOPS CIAFF AWARDS

Director Mike Rymer has won two top awards in the Independent category of the 39th Canadian International Annual Film Festival. The accolades for Best Independent Film and Best Scenario accompanied commendations for Cinematography, Concept, Sound and Music, and Editing. They bring the film's awards total to 16.


29/11/08 - 'SICK' WINS GOLDEN KNIGHT

'SICK' has won the Golden Knight at the 47th Golden Knight Malta International Film Festival. The British High Commission were on hand to collect the award which is the highest accolade at this prestigeous event. Read the press release here.


24/11/08 - MASTER CLASS AT EUROSHORTS

Writer/Director Mike Rymer has been invited to give a Master Class to delegates of the Euroshorts Festival in Warsaw this weekend (Saturday 29th November at 12pm). The 1.5hr class will reveal experiences gained on the production of his celebrated debut short film 'SICK'. Mike and Producer Christine Hartland will be guests of the festival from Friday 28th - Sunday 30th November.

03/07/08 - 'SICK' WINS ACCOLADE

Writer/Director Mike Rymer has won a prestigious Honourable Mention at The Accolade Film Awards in California. The Accolade recognizes film professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity. Read the full press release here.


04/06/08 - WIN AT ASTERFEST

The film has added to its growing clutch of awards and selections this week with the prize for Best Short Film at Macedonia's AsterFest 2008.


20/04/08 - WIN AT WORLDFEST

'SICK' took home the Gold Award last night at Houston International Film Festival (WorldFest). The film was selected from 1400 entries to receive its US premiere at the event which, after 41 years, is one of North America's longest running festivals.


16/02/08 - INTERNATIONAL PREMIERE

The film's International Premiere has been secured following selection into competition at the 24th European Film Festival of Lille. The film will represent the UK in 4 screenings between 21st - 28th March. Screen Subtitling Systems, a world leader in subtitling transmission systems, has supported the production of a film print with French subtitles lasered by Deluxe Digital.


02/01/08 - DIRECTOR'S NOTES PODCAST

EgoProject Films have kicked the new year off with an interview for Director's Notes, the popular weekly podcast. Supported by Screen South and the UK Film Council, Director's Notes talks to Director of 'SICK' Mike Rymer about many aspects of the film's production, from writing the script to facing the hurdles of a location shoot. 25/10/07 - SCREENING WITH RED ROAD

'SICK' is to have its first outing as support for a theatrical feature. Audiences for Andrea Arnold's BAFTA winning debut, Red Road (screening at Campus West Theatre in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire this Friday), will see 'SICK' ahead of the main presentation. The invite came from Dawn Sharpless of UK based short film label Dazzle Films, who we thank for her support.


15/10/07 - SCREEN SOUTH AWARD

Previously recognised by the UK Film Council when short listed for their completion fund in 2006, 'SICK' has now been successful in attracting their finance through an award from regional screen agency Screen South. The money from the Regional Investment Fund for England (RIFE) will support festival submissions of the film to the international circuit for 2007/8. Read the press release here.


31/08/07 - FILM READY FOR FESTIVALS

After a lengthy postproduction phase the film and DVD have been mastered to the highest standards and are now ready for the festival circuit.


20/04/07 - TRAILER ON PUBLIC TV

Public TV, the new Internet TV service from prolific media producer Ten Alps Plc, is to host the 'SICK' teaser trailer from today. Watch it at the site here.


04/04/07 - FILM LONDON NEWS ITEM

Today 'SICK' heads the news pages of the high profile website of Film London, the strategic agency for the film and media sector in the capital. The article, entitled 'SICK' Success, deals with the film's recent alignment with Samaritans, and will be flagged to 9,000 subscribers to the organization's e-bulletin later in the week. 28/03/07 - SAMARITANS ENDORESMENT

EgoProject Films are thrilled to announce that Samaritans have bolstered their support of the film by dedicating some pages on their website. This week 'SICK' heads their Press Room and News sections and they will shortly host the trailer. Read the press release here.


09/05/07 - DVD MASTERED

Today EgoProject Films saw the 'SICK' DVD authored at Soho's EyeFrame, award winners in the field with clients such as Shane Meddows' Dead Man's Shoes, and Charlize Theron vehicle Monster. The DVD will include a number of extra features to compliment the Stereo and 5.1 versions of the film.


05/03/07 - PRINT GRADED AND TELECINED

After several passes at Deluxe Film Laboratories, the 35mm print is graded and ready for exhibition. This week it was telecined and graded for video at Arion Post Production Facilities, whose recent clients include The Bourne Ultimatum, The Da Vinci Code, Casino Royal and Children of Men.


19/12/06 - SOUND MASTERED AT DOLBY

The six months since picture lock have seen the skills of some 30 people employed in bringing the film closer to the screen. Title sequences designed by Emma Sealey were created at Capital FX by Rus Wetherell (Digital Artist for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Breaking and Entering and The History Boys). The neg has been cut at Cutting Edge (who have recently provided the same service for Casino Royal, Children of Men and United 93). Sound has been mixed in the Dean Street Theatre at London's Goldcrest Post by Jamie Roden (Post sound on Batman Begins, Closer, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire to name a few). Sound post was overseen by BAFTA Nominee Matthew Gough and was today mastered in 5.1 digital surround by Dolby.


29/06/06 - PICTURE LOCK AT THE JOINT

June was a busy month for everyone on the project. Draft sound was mixed by BAFTA nominee Matthew Gough and applied to a fine cut which was then subject to an intimate offline screening to heads of department at De Lane Lea's preview theatre. Days later the picture was locked and handed back to the sound department for completion.


17/05/06 - TALK TO US AT CANNES

As 'SICK' nears the end of its sound design and music composition, Producer Christine Hartland has flown out to the Cannes Film Festival today and will be there for the coming week.


03/03/06 - POST-SOUND DEPARTMENT FORMED

EgoProject Films have welcomed Joel Cahen to join Composer Innes Johnston in developing the film's rich sound scape. Post-production sound will be supervised and mixed by BAFTA Nominee Matthew Gough - re-recording mixer for titles the likes of Cold Mountain, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and The Brother's Grimm among many others.


02/03/06 - BAFTA FOCUS GROUP SCREENING

The film has tonight been screened, in its unpolished state, to a small group of BAFTA members and their colleagues, at the British Academy's Piccadilly premises. This marks the film's first audience outside those involved in its production. The group knew very little about the project before the presentation, and were able to lend a key objectivity to their valuable insights.


16/02/06 - ROUGH CUT COMPLETED

The film's offline edit, at soho's The Joint Post, is now complete. March will see efforts turn towards composition of original music, and sound design.


09/02/06 - AWARD FROM SLaM NHS TRUST

At a meeting of their small grants panel, South London and Maudsley NHS Trust (SLaM) have agreed a generous award. In recognising that the film will aid one of the Trust's agendas in raising awareness of mental health issues, the grant will support the film in the closing stages of production.


06/02/06 - UK FILM COUNCIL SHORTLIST

Maya Vision International have selected 'SICK' to be short listed for the Short Film Completion Fund 2006 that they are managing on behalf of the UK Film Council's New Cinema Fund. 'SICK' has reached the last 16 projects of 150 entries vying for around 8 places with the fund which spawned this year's BAFTA winner.


19/09/05 - EDITING KICKS OFF AT THE JOINT

The Joint Post, editing house for clients the likes of Oasis, George Michael, and Madonna, have turned their hands to drama on this project. Editor Rosa Bond is to work with Director Mike Rymer to bring the film towards completion. Tim Thompsett, RTS Award Nominee for Derren Brown: The Heist, will be credited as Executive Editor.


15/09/05 - PENTHOUSE WRAP PARTY

The wrap party for 'SICK' takes place tonight, eight floors above London's West End at the exclusive Penthouse Club, No. 1 Leicester Square. The evening will also play host to the second of EgoProject Film's industry networking socials, and is twinned with celebrations for our 1st Birthday.


10/09/05 - PICKUPS AND WRAP

After a nights 'pickups', photography is completed. Despite rain and electric storms, a skeleton crew assembled back in Becton to pick up the last remaining shots. Thanks to a great crew, cast and production team, we have braved uncannily frequent vehicle breakdowns, turbulent weather, and the usual sleep deprivation to get the shots we need and the neg in the lab. Our thanks also to Lee Lighting and Panavision for their continued support. Three weeks after the end of principal photography we have everything in the can.


16/08/05 - PRINCIPAL PHOTOGRAPHY STARTS ... after a 3 hour breakfast!

After a year writing, a year fundraising, and a month in prep, the trucks break down on the opposite side of London before they leave the lockup on the first morning of a tight five day shoot. 01/08/05 - ROGUE LOGIC FILMS TAKES ON 'MAKING OF'

Max McGill of Rogue Logic Films is confirmed to document the shoot for our EPK. The 10min HDV documentary will be produced by Andrea Zurstrassen. As well as forming part of our press kit, it will be prepared for short film festival entry in 2006.


11/07/05 - SAM GARWOOD TO DIRECT PHOTOGRAPHY

EgoProject is delighted to announce that Sam Garwood is confirmed as DP. Sam has been in the business for over 20 years, with credits as focus puller for Oliver Stapleton on Nicole Kidman vehicle Birthday Girl , and Buffalo Soldiers starring Joaquin Phoenix, before progressing to 2nd Unit DP, and now DP on a number of other films.
